Zanzibar’s Crypto-Powered Digital City Aims to Redefine Governance
Zanzibar is pioneering a blockchain-based urban development on 71 hectares NEAR the Fumba Peninsula, targeting digital nomads and remote workers. The OurWorld project, spearheaded by Florian Fournier and Kristof De Spiegeleer, envisions a hybrid community for 5,000-7,000 physical residents while serving as a jurisdictional anchor for global citizens.
The initiative draws direct inspiration from Balaji Srinivasan's 'network state' concept, where cryptocurrency replaces traditional banking infrastructure. Fournier confirmed Srinivasan's financial involvement after recognizing parallels between OurWorld and the tech theorist's vision of decentralized societies.
